Terms & Conditions
The winner will be invited to two opportunities: first, a trip* to the University of Salford in the UK in March 2024, where they will have the opportunity to join a field trip to North-West England and the Lake District to conduct research about the impact of glaciers on the regional geography.
Second, the winner will spend a day at the British Embassy in Berne, meeting our Ambassador, learning more about our different policy sections including the importance of science in policy, and participating in a workshop on how to be a “Climate Ambassador”.

We will cover the travel expenses to the British Embassy Berne and back for the winner for their day spent at the Embassy. In partnership with British Airways, we are also delighted to cover the flights to and accommodation in the UK for the winner (not including meals), and the cost of the field trip (excl. meals).
The winner will be responsible for their own visa to travel to the UK for the prize in 2024 and any cost associated to that. We would notify the winner of the Embassy’s safeguarding as well as social media policies. The winner is responsible for their own health, accident, and travel insurances.
All candidates must answer the following question with a photo they have taken:
“How have glaciers shaped your life?”
Photos should be sent in .png, .jpg or .jpeg format and can be accompanied by one sentence of text (in English, French, German or Italian) which provides key details about the photo, such as where and when it was taken. The photos can be landscape or portrait, and must have been taken by the applicants.
Applicants need to be resident in Switzerland or Liechtenstein and aged between 18-25 years. Please note that if you are 17 now but turn 18 by 1 January 2024, you can still apply. There is no citizenship requirement: Ambassador for a Day is open to people of all backgrounds.

In partnership with the Swiss Photo Club – one of our jury members – we are thrilled to offer each applicant a 10% discount code (one-time-use per user), which can be used with the Swiss Photo Club for any of their short-term courses, gift vouchers or own photography competitions. Once you have submitted your Ambassador for a Day application, we will email you the discount code to the email you have provided in your application. Please note that the code is only for the given applicant and should not be shared further.
Applications are open now and will close at 23.59 on 24 November 2023. A jury comprised of experts from the UK and Swiss science community, photographers, and His Majesty’s Ambassador will consider the best applicants and select the winner.
The winner will be announced on 11 December 2023, which is International Mountain Day.
