Become a leader!
Young people are important champions for a more just, sustainable, and equal world, including with respect to climate action. Youth passionate about climate politics are helping us move toward a more climate-friendly, climate-conscious society which protects our planet.
To make a difference in the longer term, it is essential that young people are engaged in formal political processes and have a say in formulating the politics of today and tomorrow such as climate politics.
Ambassador for a Day exists to empower young people with the skills they need to become our future leaders. Every year, we hope to invite the winner of our competition to the Embassy for a day of mentorship, training, and workshops.
For our 2024 edition, our Ambassador for a Day competition focuses on the climate, a key priority area for both the UK and Swiss governments. In particular, we wish to take a closer and more personal look at the cryosphere (specifically, glaciers). Glaciers have been melting at alarming rates around the world, especially in Switzerland, due to climate change. Our thematic focus follows from the UK-Swiss scientific exchange our Embassy hosted on the Jungfraujoch in March 2022.
Our winner will not only be invited to our Embassy for a day, but will also win a trip to the University of Salford in March 2024, where they will join a field trip to North-West England and the Lake District to conduct research about the impact of glaciers on the regional geography.
The competition is open to all young people – regardless of their background – who are resident in Switzerland and Liechtenstein and aged between 18-25 years.
Applications are open now and will close at 23.59 on 24 November 2023.
